Hi,
I was wondering whether anyone here has tried keto diet? if yes, I would like to know about your experience. I aslo want to know whether it's compatible with being vegeterian.
Thanks

Hi Sasa,
I personally haven't tried the diet. I would help if I could! Thanks!
Hi Sasa,
I've tried the keto diet and my personal thought is... NEVER AGAIN! However, the keto diet happens to by my husband's go-to because he finds it easy to follow. The pros: no calorie counting, no portion restrictions, all you do is basically eliminate carbs. The cons: KETO FLU (be prepared for the first week to be terrible), and cravings (if you give into a craving you might get out of ketosis and have to go through the beginning process all over again). I wouldn't consider this diet to be a good long-term lifestyle choice but it does provide quick results.
From what I understand about a ketogenic diet is that it is a high protein, high fat,low carb diet. I am not a vegetarian but when I think of protein sources for that diet I am thinking legumes and grains for some of the protein sources and those foods won't bring you into ketosis. Other than nut, seeds and soy where else do you find your protein? I would be careful of soy as much of it is GMO and possibly estrogenic. Any other thoughts as I certainly am no expert. Just going on what I think I know.
I have done the keto diet and lost 14 lbs. A true ketogenic diet is 10% carbs, 25% protein, 65% fats. Fiber carbs do not count, though you are not allowed high carb fiber sources like beans. I personally would get most of my fiber from nuts, seeds, and a fiber supplement. Yes, keto flu can happen, but there are ways to mitigate it. Up your sodium intake a bit. Take a potassium and a magnesium supplement. I did watch my calories on keto. I'm not sure how well keto would fit with vegetarian. Most of my protein on keto came from meat (fatty and lean). If you have questions I'll answer them the best I can.
